Power Shift-Part 1

So I'm cruising through my daily distraction, the BBC News website and come across this particular article:

Click me for article!

Now, I'm not saying that I agree with the comments of Michael Buerk but it surely stirs up some shiznit.

The question for me, isn't whether gender equality is the way forward. That is full well obvious. I actually don't believe men will achieve their own full potential until there is full equality between men and women.

The question for me is, how is this achieved....things are changing anyway, but in what direction?

Do men feminise? Do women aquire more masculine traits? do both happen simultaneously?

What is feminine? Who decides it? The media? society? biology? or religion?

I consider these things masculine:

1.Deep voice
2.Having external genetalia that rhymes with Venus.
3.Possibly broad shoulders
4.Body hair (chest and face).

Now some of these may be debatable to some of you, but for me, the average male, no matter in what household, family, society they were brought up in, these come naturally for a guy.

Now, we come to 'metrosexual.' Let me define this for the uninformed:

"Metrosexual is a term coined in 1994 (along with the noun, metrosexuality) by British journalist Mark Simpson, who used it to refer to an urban male of any sexual orientation who has a strong aesthetic sense and spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle. He is the fashion-conscious target audience of men's magazines"

Now, before we continue, let me just state that I am a straight/heterosexual male who doesn't advocate nor condemn metrosexuality. What I don't like is that we have to label it as a phenomonen.

Derek Zoolander.....The original Metro...Blue Steel anyone?

OK. so lots of guys adopting this vibe...
and people tend to be polarised in opinion on whether this is good or bad...

I put this question to the masses who think metrosexuality' is a dilution of the male species.

What makes straight 'meterosexuals' more feminie?

What aspect of it? Because men now care about looking good as much as women do? Because men like to smell hot, and be so fresh and so clean like Andre 3000 (a well dressed fella if i must say so).

Once again, I think the media and ignorance decide these things. In the same way that women holding powerful positions is seen as 'wrong' by some men. Its not a 'feminine' attribute for a woman to be powerful (according to the critics, not me).

People like to look at the animal kingdom for answers.....which I think, personally is dumb... the usual being about how animals are not monogomous.... (the masculine and feminine relationship dynamics will discussed in further detail in my next blog entry)..

but as far as I remember, the female lion is the Most badass(but the male has the deep louder roar), and male cats clean themselves as much as female cats. (this is over simplyfying of course, my degree before Dentistry was Biology with a focus on Animal Behaviour so don't worry, not getting my facts from 7th party sources).....

My point being, that while I don't believe we are animals due to the power of reason and the human soul, physically, there is nothing in the 'animal kingdom' to suggest that metrosexuality is a feminisation of the male species.

On the other hand, women shave their legs.....usually....

Now, while, my preference is for a woman to shave her legs rather than going for Big Foot/Sasquatch styles, I admit and put that down to personal preference and nuture/social conditioning. I don't think a woman with smooth legs is more feminine than a woman that doesn't have them.

Upper lip hair is a little different matter. haha
Not feeling the Magnum P.I. (below) look on the ladies.

Ok. seriously. I've been going on for far too long...I want to see what people have to say about it.......

Part 2 on this subject will be coming up soon....

My groove: A bit annoyed, since my entry got accidentally erased...here is version 1.1

I'm listening to: Natural Mystic-Bob Marley & the Wailers

In the beginning was the Word.......

'Pari Passu: adverb.....means 'at an equal pace or rate'

......says my word of the day, (from my Apple OS X Tiger (grrr) widget).... courtesy of dictionary.com.

Personally, I don't forsee that word ever creeping into my daily lexicon. But who knows......

Actually, while we're on the subject of WORDs....I aim to write in this blog, relatively regularly, but....... without using ONE curse word! I hope 'shizzle' doesn't count.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, you have to imagine, when reading this blog, that I am talking to you in a mildly sardonic, English accent. Since I hail from London, England.....where we eat crumpets and cake and only drink tea, say toodle doo and cheerio and are all evil butlers by profession. The stereotype will not be televised. the stereotype is real.

I digress.. (digression is a major theme in the way I converse).

So....... one naturally wonders, what point am i making in this entry?

Do I make a witty or profound statement?

or do I merely just talk shizzle?

Or do I talk shizzle and make it sound profound?

The answer to those questions is a resounding,

Who gives a shizzle? A question in the form of an answer.

Like the 'People Under The Stairs' album of the same name.

And with that, my fellow Gaia brethrens, I bid you farewell. Maybe next time, I'll have something interesting to say rather than use Snoop D oh Double Gizzle on my Hizzle vocab as a poor man's substitute for the word shiiiiiit(ake mushrooms).

phew, that was close. ;)

My groove: Fo'shizzle-lated

I'm drinking: Carte Noire, instant Coffee (yes i know, instant sucks)

I'm listening to: My fav artist: 'Silence,' featuring the gentle hum of my Apple Powerbook fan

Holler to scholarly

This post is a long time coming........I think I will have to write more often....
me so lazy.

Ok, its evening time in London town as I write this...the sun has dipped behind the veil of darkness that masks the muggy London skies....and I am sitting here, trying to type frustratingly on a wireless keyboard. I say frustratingly because it keeps cutting out mid typing stroke.

Now you'd think that a wireless keyboard and mouse would have a reliable power source....not double A battteries! What happens if you were in the middle of an all important essay/email and the batteries ran out and you had none spare? Well you would be royally fudged.

Interesting how Microsoft (the manufacturers) didn't take that into account. Would it have been beyond 21st century technology to add a recharging dock?
I guess so. One can only dream of such utopian advances.

Anyway, in the last week I've been all over London, taking a friend, Neda, around town for 5 days and hanging with Manijeh and Vince.

Here are some of the highlights:

1.Neda being her hyperself

2.4-Way, no holds barred Mallet's Mallet. Neda Vs Ronnie Vs Manijeh Vs Vince

3. Rowing in the Serpentine (technically it was Vince and I pedalling in a pedalo while the 'ladies' sat in the front, enjoying the ride. good thigh work out)

4. Playing awesome games from Giant Chess to various card games to lose the Mobile in a shady Indian restaurants.

6. Nightbus

7.Shopping with Neda.

8. Greenwich Park

9. Seeing David Schwimmer in a Thai restaurant in Soho.

The day after that, I went to Margate and had a BLAST with Simone and Hannah (oh and shoutout to Tally).....my Kent homegirls keeping it on lockdown.

Highlights:

1.Cards-being beaten an obscene amount of times by Hannah at my forte; 'Cheat/Bluff', using her Freudian-next level-quadruple bluff trickery.

2.Playing Sh*t Head, my other forte, and being the Sh*t Head....TWICE

3.Going out to Dinner with the Margate posse, courtesy of Han's v.generous dad and having a crack up with Tally (Han's sis), esp. at a certain naughty girl with her b/f's parents.

4.Sitting near ONE of the BLONDE TWINS from FUNHOUSE

5.A transgender PAT SHARP sighting (unconfirmed)

6.Baha'i auction-all i can say about that is 'TEE' and her Mini Disc RE-JECTION as well as 'photoshoot.'

7.Greenwich park again-playing cards with Mujdeh & Simone and Hannah
and developing an Enigma-esque code with Hannah for the card game SPONGE aka Square

8.Simone's humour and her hospitality!

9.The sea, the beach and the locals (pikies-you gotta love em).

Soulglo Show 2 is UP!

Holler to the masses. After a week and a day, a day later than usual, the second podcast I have ever made, is up and online.

I am learning things all the time from this...

New things (that people may not notice) different from the first show:

1. Different format-my voice in between 3 long mixes rather than constantly over one big mix

2. The use of vocal samples from "Yeah boiiiii to Austin Powers" overlayed at the right time of the beats.....

3.Improved mixing, and fading out

4.Many different genres mixed-Dance (Broken Beat and Funky House), Rock, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul, Mo-Town, Funk, Indie/Alternative and Bossa Nova

Other than that....check out at

Soulglo Radio/Podcast is operational

So finally...... I have posted my first podcast/radio show thing. Its a 'beta version'- an experiment in podcasting. The show is called 'Soulglo,' named after the faux-advert in the movie 'Coming To America.' The basic premise of the show is funky flavas, from hip hop to dance to rock to soul to world..."its all there, count it!"

My plan is to make each show slightly different in format, some shows with more talking some with more music......we'll see what else can be done. One thing is for sure, I need a decent microphone. Anyone with any suggestions, drop me a line sil vous plait, under comments.

If this podcast goes well, i might experiment with live streaming.....

We'll see, in the meantime, check out the site at:

SoulGlo Radio!

It comes with an RSS 2.0 feed for all you net freaks in the houuuuse.

Alternatively, to download it directly, right click on the link below and 'save file/target/link' onto your desktop.....

Exam Hell

My exams are fast approaching....from the 16th-20th May, i'm gonna be on cloud 666.....

I am so unprepared.

So no real entries till then....apart from this one, because I'm naughty and should be studying........

Why is it so hard to focus?

Am I suffering from Infomania? Apparently its worse than smokin' Mary Jane! If thats true, I'm seriously stoned on information right now.
